Things I've Noticed 4: An Increase in Ignorant Pet Owners.

HEY IDIOT PET OWNERS! PREPARE TO BE INCENSED!!!

Agree with me now. You know you want to. There should be an I.Q. test required before you can own a pet. Not only that, but also a common-sense test. Do you have ANY idea how many people I have seen go online and post questions on answer sites asking things like, "SHOULD I TAKE _____ TO THE VET, SHE'S HAVING TROUBLE _____ING, I DON'T WANT TO BRING HER IF NOTHINGS WRONG, WHAT SHOULD I DO?!?!"

Really, geniuses. REALLY? If you need to ask that question at all then OBVIOUSLY something is wrong, you cheap bastards. Really, people act like bringing the dog to the vet would kill them if they were healthy after all. WHATS THE WORST THAT COULD HAPPEN??? You end up looking paranoid because it turned out to be nothing, and you're out a couple hundred? Big DEAL! Owning pets costs a lot of money, and VETS ARE WHY. If you don't know or cannot accept that, you shouldn't own one. Also, if you DO know, but cannot afford, you ALSO shouldn't own one. That "I can't afford the vet" excuse DOES.NOT.FLY. I want a dog myself, but couldn't afford it if it needed the vet, SO I SUFFER WITHOUT ONE, SO MY DOG WOULDN'T HAVE TO! Thats how that goes, folks. It's called "being responsible". End of story.

Would you not bring your child to the doctor if you were worried? (If you wouldn't, I don't want to know- don't tell me for your own good.)

PETS ARE CHILDREN. TREAT THEM AS SUCH.

Seriously, folks, anyone reading this must have a brain, thats what I figure, or they would have stopped reading and starting typing an insulted/insulting comment by now, so I present to you this question: WHY would anyone not research their animal when they get a pet?

ANSWER: People are very, VERY stupid.

Sometimes I wonder if I am a human, or some sort of alien left here as an experiment. How can I be so different from everyone on the damn planet? How is it myself and VERY FEW other people are the only ones who know that YOU SHOULD PROBABLY KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT THE LIFEFORMS ON YOUR BALL OF ROCK HURTLING THROUGH SPACE? I mean most people don't know squat about PEOPLE, let alone other animals. Hows about this, other humans?

WHEN YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT GETTING A PET, RESEARCH IT'S CHARACTERISTICS AND HEALTH RISKS BEFOREHAND.

I REPEAT:

WHEN YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT GETTING A PET, RESEARCH IT'S CHARACTERISTICS AND HEALTH RISKS BEFOREHAND.

THANKS!

Also, when you do decide which one you want, READ ALL ABOUT OWNING AND CARING FOR IT! IN ADVANCE. That way, you don't end up asking stupid questions that SHOULD be rhetorical, but sadly are not, on the internet.
Why do people do that, anyhow? Has nobody heard of Google? When you have an entire WORLD of information at your fingertips, why go online and ask and wait, when you can just go online and look it up.

My brain hurts.

You said it! That is what I would like to say but during these years of animal rescue, I have had to learn how to tone myself down. I could spend a lifetime writing comments to the people who post under the "Pets" section on Craigs List. How many people do you think post a pet for adoption because they are "moving out of state and can't take her/him with me". Really? Does that state not allow pets in it? Are you moving to the "state of in a pig's ass". What about those "Free to Good Home" ads? I have a word document that I sent to a number of the people that post those ads, oh, yes, I do. It tells them that giving a pet away is dangerous for the pet. It subjects them to possibly being sold to a lab for animal experimentation. It subjects them to being used as a bait dog for dog fighting. It subjects them to being adopted by someone who does NOT have the funds to take care of a pet and that pet will be dropped off at the shelter in the near future. I have begged Craig's List not to post "Free Pets" but they don't listen. They feel that their warning is enough. When my youngest son lived at home, we used to make jokes that there should be a game show called "People Are Stupid". There certainly would not be a shortage of contestants.

Yeah...I wanted to be a Vet for a loooong time...until I was old enough to realize I'd knock someone's teeth out if they asked me to put their pet to sleep for peeing on the rug too often/getting old/ because they didn't feel like paying for treatment/etc...then I decided I would end up in jail, so I went with criminal justice...I'll be putting them in jail instead.

Good for you. I receive notices everyday from various organizations about some ahole that has beaten a dog (or cat). I write to the DA begging for the toughest sentence allowed. I truly believe that animal abuse should be a felony in all 50 states. It's only a misdemeanor because pets are considered property. There is truly a movement and just like child abuse, it isn't staying in the shadows any more.
